Lessons From The Story of My Experiments with Truth

It’s not a revelation that his life has many lessons as a takeaway. So in the month of February 2018, I took my time with this lucid, concise book “The Story of My Experiments with Truth: Mahatma Gandhi”.

I was not a fan of ” Mahatma Gandhi”, but I fall in love with his life philosophy as soon as I started reading this book.

The lessons and quotes below has helped me changed my perspective!

"Be the change you want to see in the world" – MK Gandhi Trying to become one! This book is full of teachings so relevant to students, college students and working professionals. To be honest I was not a big fan of Gandhi but then after insistence from one of my mentor. I kept this book in my to be read list. Then one collegue was reading the same, so I started reading this as I had nothing decided to be read. Just completed part one of the autobiography, which comprises of five parts. It's a must for everyone, because not only it's a account of Mahatma Gandhi but also about Life Philosophy which is must for everyone. Remembering Bapu on 70th death anniversary. “I was, by nature, blind to the faults of elders.

For I had learnt to carry out the orders of elders, not to scan their actions”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

For many of us, obeying our elders seems so pointless at times. I am not a newbie to this, but understanding this point helps you gain a whole other perspective to obeying your elders.

“Nothing once begin should be abandoned, unless it is proved to be morally wrong”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

Are you one of those who gives up on your tasks, projects easily. Pen it down, it’s your mantra now to succeed in many endeavours of life.

“One should always find some time for exercise”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

If you are one of those who refrains from taking walk or go out for the run. This is coming from the Father of the Nation. You may want to give it a go.

“True Friendship is an identity of souls rarely to be found in this world. Only between like natures can friendship be altogether worthy and enduring”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

Bad company, wrong persons, this is the excerpt from one of the incidents that took place in the life of Mahatma Gandhi. So, you can count on this one for sure.

“A clean confession, combined with a promise never to commit the sin again, when offered before one who has the right to receive it, is the purest type of repentance.”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

To err is human, so we all make mistakes. But what after we make mistakes, confess? Is it the right way to go by well here is your answer to all your queries.

“Common honesty and industry are enough  to make a living”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

These two traits that can help literally anyone!

“I believe in effort, I do not want to bind myself with vows is the mentality of weakness”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

So what your vows/principle gonna be?

“I have found by experience that man makes his plans to be often upset by God”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

Such an important lesson to learn. Making plans is of no use but what can help us is Planning. So there goes the roadmap to life!

“A man who is swayed by passions may have good intentions, maybe truthful in word, but he will never find the truth”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

So simply drawn by passions will not lead to the Truth of Life. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t follow your passion, rather make passions on of the milestone towards the journey to find the Truth

“But my extreme cautiousness and my insistence on truth, even to the minutest detail,  turned the edge of their sword”

The Story of My Experiments with Truth

Bapu experienced that devil lies in the details, and it helped him immensely to earn respect and social status

So here are some of the lessons I learned from the book. Stay tuned for some more lessons from this book. Hope you enjoyed reading, comment any lesson that inspired you!
